Immigration Law Award • Aileen Naja Josephs

Aileen, a solo practitioner in West Palm Beach, is a graduate of Brandeis University where she received her B.A., cum laude, at Boston College Law School. Aileen began her legal career at the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society in New York City. Aileen's immigration work continued at Florida Rural Legal Services where she worked until she opened her own practice in 1995.
Since that time, Aileen has done a significant amount of pro bono immigration work.

Over the past eight years she has helped over 40 undocumented children within our borders who were abandoned, neglected or abused. This past year, Aileen spent over 60 hours helping three undocumented children, guiding their cases through the dependency court and applying for their permanent residency as Special Immigrant Juveniles. In addition, Aileen helped an abused Guatemalan-Mayan women obtain shelter, public assistance, employment and child care. Aileen's community involvement and lobbying efforts to aid Palm Beach County's immmigrant community were highlighted by her nominators, Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Palm Beach, Inc. and attorney Sibhan Shea.

Over the years, Aileen has worked tirelessly to protect the rights of undocumented alien children and to advocate fairer immigration laws for Guatemalan and Salvadoran nationals. For her commitment to justice and equal protection for her clients, Aileen is a worthy recipient of the Immigration Law Award.
